Why I am Starting a Blog and the Journey to Name it
~While naming my blog
Found myself in a fog
Couldn't make up my mind
Until I did find
A name for my new project
The Shenanigan Complex~
Okay. So I have WAY too much time on my hands apparently. Don't get used to it. I am in a strange rhyming mood today.
So, I decided that I wanted to start a Blog about a month (maybe two...) ago that would kind of chart what I am doing, thinking, taking pictures of, writing about, ect. Yes, like a diary, but also with a lot of other randomness. I had two reasons for wanting to chart these things in Blog form.
1. Shenanigans happen, I am a klutz, and I have a toddler. I have now started 3 (maybe 4...) hand written diaries. You know, the pretty ones from B & N that you beg your husband for who then replies "only if you will use it" to which you assure him you certainly will and then you write like two entries and life happens. Life as in we moved and lost the first one, second one had coffee spilled on it (smelled nice, not so good for writing anymore), third the baby decided was her coloring book, and that illusive fourth that I may (or may not) have is somewhere in drawer. In other words, the written form of a diary just wasn't working for me. I do want those memories, pictures, and thoughts to be around one day for me to look back on and reflect though.
2. While writing in a diary would be neat to look back on and read one day...who is it going to help? What was the point? If I write even ONE post that was useful in someway to someone else then it was worth writing on a Blog versus a hand written diary. (You should let me know if you ever find yourself being that one person because that would be cool)
And so I started this Blog! The Shenanigan Complex. I have to say...the most difficult thing about starting a Blog for me was not the motivation, time restraint, know-how, or anything reasonable. No no, my issue was NAMING the Blog. Seriously?! I was so pumped about two weeks ago when I sat down at my computer to start this blog and then...fingers paused at the keys when it asked for a title. A title? Oh yeah...I guess I do need a name for the thing. And so began my journey to finding a name. Which started with a big blank and slowly moved on to a bunch of names that were awful and then onto ones that were good and all taken. Apparently naming a Blog is not as easy as it seems. So I do what most people of my generation would do when they have a problem they can't solve...I googled it! "How to pick an awesome name for your Blog" I typed into that square space under those familiar colored letters and pressed my enter key and checked out my results.
A few minutes later, I could not believe that I was literally reading Blogs about how to name a Blog! Really? Has it come to this? I digress...so after not getting anywhere I decided to ask the Husband and my friend. My Husband was all for naming it "The Gallivanting Wife". To which I responded that I did not believe he knew what that word actually meant or implied. Then we had a vocabulary war and once again I had to turn to my friendly internet browser of choice. Gallivanting actually means to go about seeking pleasure or diversion; to go about with members of the opposite sex.
After that he quickly changed his mind as that Title would send the wrong message. :p
I kept thinking about a name in the back of my mind and last night it just popped in my head like when you can't think of a word but it is just right on the edge of your mind's sphere and then suddenly it orbits close enough and you snatch it up and are like "yes"! The Shenanigan Complex fits my life perfectly and it was not taken. I may go into why it fits my life perfectly at some other time (if you can't figure out why that fits after reading like two of my posts) but for now I have life calling me...or in this case a 2 year old who would like to cuddle and watch Frozen, again. :D
